Art Guppy began studying the native plants of British Columbia and neighbouring provinces and states from Alaska to California in the 1960s, and continued until advancing age prevented it in the early 2000s.
Throughout this time, and until about 2013, Art grew native plants, mostly those of the lily family, in his garden, either from seed or plants shared by other gardeners around the world. Unfortunately infirmity has made this impossible for him as well.
He also wrote extensively about what he observed, and many of his articles have been published in various magazines and journals. This blog is a compilation of his work, as we, his children, felt that it is worth making available to all.
This is very much a work in progress: please be patient! The dates on the articles are approximately when they were written — all are being posted in 2017.
Please let us know if you see any spelling or other errors — they are ours, not Art’s.
